Umbwe Route
If you are looking for a more direct way of reaching the top of Kilimanjaro with low traffic and minimum to no acclimatization stages then you should consider the Umbwe route. It is regarded as the most challenging route up Kilimanjaro because of its quick climb to high altitudes. Similar to its low traffic, the chances of success are also very low. From its start to Barranco camp the route is short steep very direct. After Barranco camp it heads east and traverses underneath Kilimanjaro southern ice fields on a path best known as the southern circuit and ultimately summits from Barafu Camp.
Only professional and strong hikers who are comfortable at high altitudes and can acclimatize quickly should attempt this route. 7 days is highly recommended on this route despite it is having 6 days as a minimum number days.
Mweka route is the preferred descent route when climbing via Umbwe.
