After a short drive from Moshi we will stop at Marangu gate for registration before commencing. After a short walk through the rain forest from Mandara hut, past Maundi crater, we’ll encounter the moorland where we’ll be able to see Kili’s spectacular flora (giant lobelia and the giant groundsel. Meals: breakfast, lunch and dinner. | Accommodation: Horombo Hut.
We’ll spend an extra day and night at Horombo hut for acclimatization. Don’t worry you won’t be bored because the place is mostly always filled with people (other climbers) both ascending and descending. Furthermore, a strongly recommended acclimatization hike half way towards Mawenzi Hut and back to Horombo hut is strongly recommended.
Meals: breakfast, lunch and dinner. | Accommodation: Horombo Hut.
Picking between the two routes available to us un Upper route (right hand fork) and a lower route (left hand fork), the upper route seeming familiar from our previous day acclimatization hike, we will continue with our hike towards the “saddle”(the area between Mawenzi and Kibo peaks). Between the upper and the lower routes, the lower route is the easiest and takes the shortest time.
Meals: breakfast, lunch and dinner. | Accommodation: Horombo hut.
As it is with all final stops to the summit on all routes, hiking will start at around midnight.
The tough climb on a rocky trail will take you past Hans Meyer Cave (5150m) past Gillman’s Point (5681m) located on the crater rim and up a mentally and physically challenging steep stony scree, to a snowy section that will bring us all the way to Uhuru (5895m) peak. Africa continent’s highest point
After feeling much joy and relief because of a successful summit and after taking photos and ticking your bucket list, you will start on a six hour decent through Kibo hut to Horombo hut where you’ll camp for the final day in the mountain.
Meals: breakfast, lunch and dinner. | Accommodation: Horombo hut.
The final day of the hike down will take 6hrs taking us all the way back to the park’s gate. Check out will follow along with receiving our Kilimanjaro climbing certificates as well as saying.
