Our Safari Overview
This is the go to Kilimanjaro package for most hikers that doubt themselves in their ability to reach the top. This 8 day private package via Lemosho route should give you more confidence and if you are still in doubt then we can always opt for a longer package. The total number of days for the package is 10 days (8 days hiking 1 day of arrival 1 day for departure). The arrival and departure days include airport transfers and a night at a hotel. If you are already in the country then the arrival and departure days should be disregarded. We’ve also provided two sets of prices for the full package 9 days and prices for just the 7 days of the climb.
Coming in as highly recommended the Lemosho route is among the most recent (new) routes up Kilimanjaro. It is the most scenic trail up Kilimanjaro with beautiful vistas and amazing panoramic views; it also gives a high summit success rate with a moderate traffic during the climb.
Lost in Africa professional mountain guides will do their best to make sure that you safely reach the top of Kilimanjaro hence fulfilling your goal and dream. They will adjust the pace accordingly and monitor your health periodically throughout the hike. You will be accompanied by your guide a cook and a team of porters (a crew of 9 people for 2 climbers). The more the climbers, the more the crew will be.
Duration: 10 days (8 days hiking, 1 day of arrival, 1 day for departure).
Detailed Itienerary

Register at the Marangu park gate with a transfer (approximately 2½ hours) to the Rongai trailhead. Meet your guide and porters before you begin your hike from the NaleMoru village. The small winding path crosses maize fields before entering pine forest, and then climbs gently though a forest. The road is not steep and the hike is not arduous rather a gentle hike through beautiful landscapes. You will have your first night cave camp at about 2,600 meters of the sea level. Here you will have a toilet and a wooden table with benches, but not hut. You can collect water just down the trail below First Cave.
You’ll ascend from the heather (dense forest) hiking through the open moorland to camp at shira cave. the old volcanic caldera here is a sight to see requiring half an hour optional walk in the afternoon for exploration. be on the lookout for herds elands along with the occasional lion which can be spotted here.
meals included: breakfast, lunch and dinner. | accommodation: shira cave
This is perhaps one of the most scenic parts of the climb. We’ll walk the moorland crossing the Shira plateau (one of the highest plateaus on earth) before diverting from the main trail towards Moir Camp. An optional late afternoon hike to a view point is highly recommended for those who will still feel energetic.
Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. | Accommodation: Moir Hut.
From Moir we hike east across the slopes of Kibo towards lava tower and ultimately Barranco camp. We’ll stop for lunch at the Lava Tower (if interested you can hike up the lava tower for about an hour) before proceeding to Barranco Camp. The extreme temperatures here have led to limited flora and fauna. We’ll later descend to our final destination for the day. This is a very important day for Acclimatization as you begin the hike at a lower point, spend time at higher altitudes and then descend down to a lower point.
Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. | Accommodation: Barranco Camp.
The day begins with a short descend to the base of the Barranco wall then a steep and tricky climb up the Barranco wall (a cliff of 274 meters) you might need to use your hands to reach and steady yourself a bit like a rock climber. Once atop of the wall you’ll have a magnificent view of the Barranco valley and a sight of the camp you spent the previous night in. You’ll make your way through the greener valley known to be the last water point on the way up the mountain to Karanga valley camp where you’ll camp for the night.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. | Accommodation: Karanga Camp.
This short and steep uphill climb will take you past the Decken’s Glacier (placing it on your left), give you a fantastic view of the summit from many different angles and take you up a steep ridge to our final camp before the summit nested high up on the rocks (4328m). We’ll have an early dinner and enough time to rest in preparation for the summit attempt ahead.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. | Accommodation: Barafu Camp.
After a warm cup of tea and biscuits, hiking will start just before midnight. This can’t be avoided because we aim to reach Stella point (5750m) on the crater rim by sunrise. It’s here where the lava fields are like loose sand hence stealing half a step from you with each you take. A break every 15 minutes is normal in this section as the climb gets even more mentally and physically demanding. After a short while on this final section you’ll reach Uhuru peak (5904) the highest point in the continent. You can then congratulate yourself, take photos and tick your bucket list.
What goes up must come down. From here we will start our 6hrs decent to Mweka camp (3068m). This long and hard day will tire you yet leave you absolutely happy knowing that you conquered Mt Kilimanjaro.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. | Accommodation: Mweka Camp.
The final day of the hike will take between 4 and 5 hours taking us all the way back to the pack gate. check out will follow along with receiving our kilimanjaro climbing certificates as well as saying our goodbyes to the mountain crew members. from there, you’ll be transferred back to your hotel for a hot shower dinner and a much needed rest.
meals: breakfast, lunch and dinner. | accommodation: masailand safari lodge
The final day will see your itinerary extension begin (if any) or you’ll be transferred to your port of exit be it the airport for your flight home or to zanzibar or to the national parks for your safari extension depending on your destination and time of departure.
Meals: breakfast, lunch and dinner (depending on departure time). | Accommodation: Accommodation in next destination Â
